Fanny Broadmoor has loved Michael Atwell all of her life. They’d like to marry but now that her parents and grandparents are gone, her guardian, Uncle Jonas, will never grant permission. Money and social standing is too important to Uncle Jonas. With the emphasis on money, Uncle Jonas is determined to "guide" and control Fanny because he can’t abide his father’s will to have left Fanny a third of the entire estate.
Michael has always loved Fanny but he realized that a family servant could never gain the proper permission to marry a socialite, let alone a Broadmoor. Michael realizes only one thing will impress Jonas Broadmoor and that’s money. Hearing talk of the recent gold strikes in the Yukon, Michael makes a deal with Jonas that should he strike it rich he has permission to marry Fanny. With little delay he’s off to the Yukon.
In the meantime, Jonas tries to gain control of Fanny’s inheritance by controlling Fanny. He has no intention of waiting for Michael’s return to marry Fanny off. Jonas is sneaky, cunning and will stop at nothing to gain control of Fanny’s money. Although Fanny hasn’t realized all the conniving ways of her uncle, she’s a strong young woman determined to stand up for her own desires and go where her heart leads her.
A Daughter’s Inheritance has strong characters and some of the secondary characters are even stronger than Fanny and Michael. It’s a well written story though for someone who appreciates detail, it has more than I like. On the other hand, it is Book 1 of a series so I suspect; the detail is intended to lay the foundation of the story. Also, the ending wasn’t a cliffhanger but Fanny and Michael’s story is not really complete. For me this was a bit frustrating, but others may enjoy this type of ending.
A Daughter’s Inheritance has drama, a bit of suspense and a lot of emotion that keeps the reader turning the page. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book in the Broadmoor Legacy series.
