Lord Harry Montague, a known rake, is given the ultimatum to marry by his father,
the Marquess of Merlton. The marquess has the perfect
candidate for Harry to marry, Prudence Culpepper, a wealthy squire's
daughter, whose land adjoins the marquess's estate. The marquess and the
squire have decided that Harry and Prudence will marry. However, Prudence
has convinced herself that she is in love with a British
officer and Harry has no wish to marry. Harry and Prudence decide to pretend to go
along with their fathers and try and get out of the
situation.
A Rake's Redemption is a pleasant change from the more steamy regency romances, and makes me long for more of the traditional regencies, that are seldom published anymore. I greatly enjoyed the characters in this book, especially Harry, whose outward appearance as a rake, hid a compassionate, caring man. Unfortunately, I wish that Prudence had lived up to her name on several occasions. However, by the end, Prudence had thought of a way to save herself and redeemed herself in my eyes.
A Rake's Redemption is recommended for the reader nostalgic for traditional regency romances.
