What a lucky break!! Jean Luc Le Croix asked Maddie Springer to show her shoes with his fall collection. In Paris no less! Maddie Springer originals have hit the big time. Nothing’s going to stop her now! Slow her down maybe, but not stop her.
Things look quite grim when Gisella, a top model, is found D-E-A-D on the runway. The weapon? A stiletto. This stinks, big time. Not only is someone trying to make it look like Maddie did the model in, but Detective Moreau confiscates the shoes for the show!! No shoes, no big time.
More pieces are added to the puzzle as blackmail and jewelry theft is (allegedly) connected to Gisella. The biggest puzzle is how and why does so much evidence link Maddie to the crime?
There's definitely more to it than her than her timing, which leaves much to be desired, or her penchant for crime scene snooping. So if gallivanting in a hobble-y sort of way across Europe to follow the clues is what it takes, then so be it. Anything to get her babies released. Oh, and catch a killer/thief, of course.
Against Ramirez’s orders (grrrr), Maddie and her partners in crime, um, crime-solving, try to put the pieces in place. 1-2-3. Murderer caught, shoes returned, big time hit, love life set to rights. Sure. Just like that.
You’ve got to hand it to Maddie. She’s nothing if not tenacious. Trying to clear her name, trying to make a name for herself (one that's not spelled The Couture Killer), trying to hang on to Ramirez, and all thousands of miles from home to boot.
Maddie and the gang are a near unbeatable ensemble cast. Fourth in the series and the characters stay true to form. Sadly, Marco was conspicuously absent (I guess faux dad needed him at the salon), but Maddie’s mom, Mrs. R., Dana, Ramierez, and Felix (Mr. Love Triangle himself) all played their parts either helping or hindering, driving Maddie crazy (again, still) one way or another.
Nothing sizzles and simmers better than a story featuring Maddie Springer, embroiled waist deep in romance and fashion woes, and a whole lot of suspense.
Gemma Halliday has set the bar high, not only for the authors of this genre, but for the expectations of this genre’s readers. Does she deliver? You Bet.
