Cort Wells moved to Mule Hollow to get away from everything. His marriage didn’t go well and he wants nothing to do with people right now. Samantha has another idea in mind though. She repeatedly visits his home unannounced. She lets his stock out of the barn and destroys his feed room. He can’t take anymore of this annoying little…mule. (Got ya didn’t I?)

Samantha is owned by his neighbor down the road, Lilly Tipps. Lilly comes to the farm to retrieve her wayward mule, who by the way has now made friends with Cort’s dog, Loser. Lilly lives on her own and is a native of Mule Hollow. However, she also likes a bit of solitude. This would be okay with Cort except that Samantha comes to get him one day with a note asking for help. Lilly also happens to be very pregnant and goes into labor.

Now they have to be friends and help each other out. Cort feels responsible since he helped her out with delivery and getting help. Lilly feels Cort needs some love in his life and Samantha and Loser just think they need to share the same farm land. All in all, things are now totally out of Cort and Lilly’s hands.

Debra Clopton has created a beautifully, clever love story for Cort and Lilly. This is unlike any book I have ever read and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. No, it isn’t a deep, philosophical read but it is cute, entertaining and downright funny and yet sweet and charming. And Baby Makes Five is truly a story to just kick back when you need some relief of a stressful day and enjoy a few chuckles and smiles.
