Brianna Winston-Beaufort is a lawyer in Savannah, GA. She has recently acquired her practice of Beaufort & Company from her great-uncle. The only problem Brianna can see is that the law firm is haunted. She is not only a lawyer to regular people, but she also handles appeals for condemned souls. Representing condemned souls unfortunately won’t help her pay the bills so she jumps at the chance to represent elderly actress Justine Coville, an honest to goodness paying customer. Thinking Justine is only there to make updates to her will, Brianna surprisingly finds herself thrust back into a world of mystery, murder, and representing the condemned.
Justine has been cast in a made-for-TV movie based on the notorious murder of actress Haydee Quinn. Justine believes she is being targeted by someone who doesn’t want the production to continue. There are fights on set, equipment malfunctions, and even an actress thinks she is possessed by the ghost of Haydee. It falls on Brianna and her team of angels to find out who really killed Haydee all those years ago and put her ghost to rest before someone else gets the ax.
It is always refreshing to be able to read a wonderfully put together mystery. From the time I was little reading Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie, I have been an avid reader of mysteries.
Mary Stanton is a wonderful addition to those great authors. Her take on the legal system and its role in helping the condemned souls get to Heaven is brilliant. Brianna is a very take charge, strong-willed, smart and witty lawyer. I love how she is able to do her job without having to dumb herself down in front of the boys. She is her own woman and doesn’t apologize for it. She is hands down one of the great mystery heroines. Mary Stanton has once again nailed the perfect mystery with Angel’s Verdict.
