I’ll let you know right up front, Dear Readers, that any author who chooses to start their book off with a quote from the best movie (Practical Magic), delivered by the best actress (Stockard Channing) has my vote for author of the year. Well…I guess I’m not that easy. But this book more than delivers even after that famous line.
Travel writer, Sydney Alexander wants desperately to stop the search for Mr. Right. Sydney is a Christian, twenty-something, single whose dating world includes a list of frog-princes: Daniel, who has the uncanny ability to always and forever remain ‘in-between’ jobs; a guy who wants a girl friend (translation a girl who is just a pal); and one who wants ten kids and no career…for his wife. Sydney, through all the dating fiascos, keeps her chin up and blessedly keeps her sense of humor throughout.
Her sister, Samantha, is a studying psychologist. She, unlike Sydney, is extremely cautious on the dating front. Her best friend, Eli, truly is the one for her, although it is almost impossible to see the perfection that stares her in the face on a daily basis. Eli is the guy who actually stops his Halo game when he has the highest score ever, in order to go over to Samantha’s house and fix her kitchen sink at 1:00 am. Of course, Sam has a boyfriend named Adrian. Adrian is a very nice, pretty boy, but has serious issues on the dating front.
Add in Kristin, a best friend from college, and Rain, the next door neighbor and her personal-hygiene-challenged boyfriend, and you find yourself with a wonderful cast of characters. In fact, there are many with such diverse backgrounds intersecting in this book, that there just isn’t enough space to highlight them all.
Follow Sydney in her whirlwind, humorous life as she finally lands her dream job and eligible bachelors begin falling at her feet. This is a wonderful romp which really drives the idea home that women should never settle for less than God’s best. Enjoy!
