Alison Wells is shocked to meet a Warrior of the Blood after he defends her from a vampire attack. It seems that Alison is a very powerful being who is being called to Ascend. Ascension involves going to an alternate dimension, Second Earth, and becoming a vampire. Unfortunately, there is a struggle between good and evil on Second Earth, and Alison is caught up in it. Alison will need Kerrick, who is her Guardian of Ascension, to help keep her safe.

Ascension is an enjoyable paranormal romance, which has a unique take on the vampire mythos. Ms. Roane creates a complex and imaginative world filled with intriguing characters. Alison is an intelligent woman who learns that she has inner strength and to trust herself. Kerrick is a strong, protective, tortured hero, who kind of annoyed me with his brooding, at times. Thankfully, he finally realized, that he is meant to be with Alison. The secondary characters are interesting, even the villains. While it took me awhile to get into this book, by the end, I was totally involved and rooting for Alison and Garrick.
