Assassin's Fall is a story about choices. The ones we are forced to make and the ones that we have no choice but to make. It’s also a story about redemption from the choices that we have no choice but to make. The two main characters, Haley and Shane, struggle with the concept of choices and reality. For Shane, a cop undercover, life is all about right and wrong--and the correct choice is the only choice to make. Haley, a high level assassin, has never had a choice. A young girl, living life on the streets and forced into a life of crime, now is unsure of her past, present, and future.
Haley is approached by her bosses boss...complete an unthinkable 'assignment' or face an unthinkable consequence. At this moment, Haley is forced to reevaluate her life! And Shane is there to help simplify the consequences! They embark on an adventure filled with suspense, sexual tension, danger, pure evil, and hope for the future. The plor is very predictable; as in the perils the heroine finds herself in, the things working against them, and the character development itself. Haley is described as a tough, no nonsense women, who has lived her life independent of all connections, except one, yet the reader is expected to believe that she lets all her defenses down in less than a week to be rescued by Shane?
Assassin's Fall was an easy read. The plot has many twists and turns, but at times was a bit predictable and unbelievable. For instance, Haley and Shane are the only twp characters arrested and released a few hours later after an 'easy' mission goes bad, yet very few questions are asked by the other members of the team, or the boss. This is in deep contrast with what the author wants you to believe about the brutality of the agency that Haley works for. Perhaps my biggest disappointment was the character of Haley’s boss, he is described as vicious, deadly, and unfeeling, yet it ends that he would forgive Haley for everything if she would live as his wife, it just seemed unbelievable to me. There are some very complex character relations that are touched upon, leaving the reader to wonder about what’s not said. I feel as if this book was part of a series, where I would have already been introduced to all the other characters and there back-story, but that is not the case. Each member of the team had something interesting to bring to the story and an opportunity to add a layer of depth.
