Robert Miller couldn't keep Lilly Allen out of his thoughts, no matter how hard he tried. Now this wouldn't be a bad thing or even uncommon if Robert wasn't Amish and Lilly an Englisher. His family and his way of life would not accept anything really besides friendship, and maybe not even that between them. The fact that Lilly is an Englisher is not all that is against her. The major thing is that she had a physical relationship outside of marriage and was pregnant. Lilly ended up having a miscarriage that for some reason absolutely devastated Robert. This quiet Amish man would come into her work for coffee was slowly but surely bringing her back to life. Little did Lilly know she was doing the exact same thing for Robert. Robert at one time was married and living a very happy life until his wife was diagnosed with cancer. She, along with all of his happiness, died two years into the marriage. Robert for all intents and purposes became a shell, that is until Lilly.
What I love so much about Robert and Lilly as a couple is how much each is willing to consider to let go of to be with one another. Lilly actually considers becoming Amish but inevitably she knows that would never work out since she is too attached to her car and her phone and such. For a while Lilly and Robert do believe that anything between them would be impossible—that is until Robert comes to a very important decision. With the backing of his church, Robert may have found a way to change enough to be accepted by the church and by Lilly.
All in all, this book was a very good book to read. I wish Shelley Shepard Gray were writing more in the series, but this was the last one. She does a very good job in taking you into another world. A world most people have heard about but don't know much about and making you fall in love with their way of life!
