Gabe Mitchell is living his dream. He, along with his father and brother, has built the lodge (and retreat) of his dreams along the Hudson River. It is everything he has ever hoped for. The rooms will be among the most comfortable any guest could wish for. His service for those guests will be second to none. The view is indescribable. The only problem is that his restaurant needs a chef. So far the interviews for chef are not going well. Not even close and time is running short. The grand opening is coming soon, and to make matters even tougher, he agreed to host a wedding in order to get some good PR out of it. If he doesn’t get the right person soon, he will be in big trouble.

His brother and father are good at pointing out that the answer is really right in front of Gabe – he just doesn’t want to see it. Alice Mitchell is just the chef they are looking for. She has exactly the right touch for the type of food they are looking for. She is a great chef for others to work with and works quite well with those who are doing special events since she is very creative. Sounds like the right fit, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, she is also his ex and they aren’t getting along real well right now.

From Alice’s side, she would fight tooth and nail against spending time with Gabe again. However, Gabe caught her on a very bad day with his job offer. She has just lost another chef’s position and she is in desperate need of a job, although she isn’t going to tell him that. She figures she can handle anything for a couple of months to help Gabe get past the worst of the opening issues and get things set up for him.

What both of them have forgotten was the feelings of the heart before the hurt set in. The heart often has a mind of its own.

Molly O’Keefe has once again come out with a page turner. There were so many times I had the mental image of the V-8 commercial. You know the commercials where someone hits another person’s forehead and says duh, you could have had a V-8. (No offense, Molly) Well, there were so many times I just had to chuckle and think I would like to do that to Gabe and Alice. The characters Molly has created are so life-like that you would swear someone is telling you about something their best friend just did. How many times do we resist what we most want out of pride?

I really want to find this lodge and visit them there because the scenes set in Baby Makes Three sound heavenly. Please tell me there will be more stories out of this Hudson River setting, Molly…

Grab a cup of coffee on a chilly day, curl up with your blanket in front of the fire and just sit back for a sweet story with some ahhs and some chuckles.
