She’s the Slayer. Emma Wallace fears nothing, and doesn’t worry about her own safety in her quest to kill vampires. All vampires. Each and every one of them is evil. She knows this personally. They brutally killed her parents and she wants revenge. And working for a secret branch of the government has honed her physical skills to enable her to do just that. Seek revenge.
Angus MacKay is assigned to find the slayer and stop them before a war is started. When he learns it’s a lovely, kick-butt lass, he does his utmost to prove to her that all vamps are not evil. He tries to convince her, her actions could have severe consequences for the good vamps as well as humans, but it’s not easy to do. Time is running out though, as the Malcontents (bad vamps) are getting restless and hot on the trail of the one who has been killing them.
Gorgeous, muscle-y, warrior-like Angus is confusing her. He and his vamp friends are not like those she’s killed or those who killed her parents. But it’s all a trick. It has to be, because there couldn’t be good vamps and bad vamps. Yet time after time he’s shown her just that. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the situation; perhaps it’s time to give Angus the benefit of the doubt and side with him. Before it’s too late for everyone.
We’re reunited with many of the beloved ensemble...Ian, Connor, and Gregori to name a few. None of whom fail to step out of character from book to book. Angus still has his serious and no nonsense side we’ve seen in previous books, and has a couple of fun quirks. But we’re also shown what makes him tick, and it touches the heart. Emma on the other hand, well, let’s just say it took me a while to like her. After all, I did "know" Angus first...But I did come around, as did she.
Be Still My Vampire Heart is a more sober installment to the Love At Stake series. You won’t find as many laugh out loud moments as in How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire, but there are some lighthearted-feel-good moments throughout.
Kerrelyn Sparks always entertains. She has a way of writing that makes you almost forget you’re reading a Vamp story as ultimately the test of good vs. evil and love heals and conquers all are at the core of the story.
