You know the old saying about your past catching up with you?? Well, Reid is looking at exactly that scenario, although since it is something he has always wished for, he doesn’t quite know how to deal with it. Years ago in his youth, he fell madly in love with Nina. Now the problem with that is that his parents believed that Nina was all wrong for him and so when Nina found herself pregnant and Reid off at school, Reid’s mom talked her into giving the child up for adoption.

When Reid found out, he was more than a little upset but he got around that by finding out who had adopted the baby and making an agreement with them. He would be allowed to become a full family friend and the child’s "uncle" as long as he never told her she was adopted. If this was the best he could get, Reid was content to do so. So, as Amy grew, he became her uncle and married and fathered another daughter, Tara.

Out of the blue one day, Amy shows up on his doorstep. She has just found out she is adopted but the way she found out is rather ironic. During her delivering her child (again, conceived through young love), there were complications and it all came out. So, Amy ran from her adoptive parents and the father of her child, Beebee to find haven with her "uncle" Reid. Amy’s other goal is to find her adoptive parents.

Her biological mother is living nearby which totally blows Amy away since her mother is a TV personality and Amy wants to be an actress—what better combination!! As thrilled as Amy is to find our about her mother, Nina, she is equally ticked off to find out uncle is really daddy! So will this news tear this fledging family apart forever or maybe, just maybe patch some holes.

I loved this sweet story of long, lost romance. So many times you wonder if a child is conceived in love and then given up for adoption and if those parents were to come together again and if both parents were available—what would happen? I think Joan Kilby has created a touchingly, sweet reunion for these two people. Nina and Reid were both hurting and had tried to fill the holes in other methods—Nina through her work and Reid through his first wife (which didn’t really work and she has passed away now) and his writing. However, even Reid’s writing has started to suffer—that is until he collaborates with Nina on a new path for the hero of his series. You also have to look at the title of Beach Baby and know that Beebee is a hoot with her fast little legs and mischievous ways!
