Dear Readers:
I was extremely lucky a few months back to read the first book dedicated to the characters of Melanie and Charles Fraser entitled, Secrets of a Lady. I was so impressed with that story (and, you should’ve run out and bought it by now), that I was beyond excited to receive the second.
The second story has lost none of its original charm. We begin with the Fraser’s living in London, surrounded by friends and neighbors who are reveling in the victory of the Napoleonic Wars. Charles, of course, is a former spy; Melanie, his wife…well, read the first book.
Charles is connected with many rich, influential families in London. Each and every one of those families adores him. Unfortunately, they can’t quite accept his exquisite, foreign bride. Melanie can not only feel their indifference, she accepts it as a part of her life. After all, she and Charles share secrets that would shame and shock the high society community.
Already encompassed in a web of lies, Charles receives two surprises. One: The former woman in his life announces that she is engaged to his father. Two: A friend calls him from out of nowhere for a meeting. When Charles and Melanie arrive at the destination, Charles must hold his old friend in his arms as he bleeds to death from an invisible shooter. As the story moves, you’ll find yourself in a Scottish castle with Charles playing the game of his life. Can he save the woman who owns his heart and soul? Can he finally break down and tell her how he really feels?
As with Secrets, if you like suspense, secret societies, European castles, and unrequited love – there’s nothing better than Tracy Grant’s characters. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
A huge score, Ms. Grant. I can’t wait for the next one.
