Life’s a struggle. Sometimes in a catastrophic way and sometimes not. It’s a struggle nonetheless.

Stay at home mom, Heidi Elliott, is still battling the seemingly permanent placement of baby weight four years later. An ongoing battle, but she perseveres by joining Strut-n-Stroll. It’s during one of these two-mile strolls that she meets Kylie Zimmerman, owner of Solomon’s Closet. Lingerie for the Christian woman, designed to make the Christian woman feel beautiful and sexy in and out of the bedroom as God intended.

Heidi is a bit skeptical, but when duct tape is her husband’s answer to a broken faucet, she soon plunges ahead and becomes a consultant. If Jake and the duct tape weren’t reason enough, their recent financial crunch is. Besides, Kylie swears it’s the best way to stay at home and help supplement the income.

Since money is needed and they’re planning on expanding their family, perhaps this is a part of God’s plan. And even though she adores her precocious little girl, Nora, it seems like an answer to the prayer for adult interaction and a distraction from her best friend, Annie’s defection abroad to work and live for a year.

Heidi soon discovers what we may interpret as God’s plan is sometimes the road to a lesson and growth. Yet figuring out what we’re supposed to learn is sometimes harder than life’s struggles.

I must say, Heidi’s life isn’t dull, even though she may think so, what with Nora and her imagination and penchant for repeating things. Her neighbors provide some entertainment, as does friend Willow. Add to that the lingerie parties and…well it was fun to peek into Heidi’s disorganized life.

A fast paced book with realistic and likable characters, Bottom Line is entertaining and quirky and heartfelt all rolled into one. The questions we sometimes have for God along with the bits of inspiration completed the book.

The series is fresh and refreshing. I look forward seeing what’s up with Heidi in the next book.
