Victoria Christou has tried to move on with her life. Granted it hasn’t gone the way she envisioned. As a very young woman, she fell madly in love with Alexei Christou but at the time she didn’t realize the background Alexei came from. Victoria has come from a poor background and is a hard worker. She has gotten where she was truly by hard work and loving relationships around her. Alexei came from a very wealthy background rooted in tradition. He is the eldest son of the family and he is expected to take on the family business. He is expected to marry a woman worthy of their family name who has all of the social graces. Given that both Alexei and Victoria were young they had the belief their love could overcome it all.
Promptly upon moving to Greece, Victoria found herself deposited in his parent’s home. To say she wasn’t welcomed by the family would be an understatement and for a woman used to working, boredom quickly became her constant companion. Even her time with Alexei became minimal because he was working extra hours with his father trying to learn everything about the business so he could take over and they could live the better life.
He went on one long trip too many and Victoria couldn’t stand that life anymore. If she didn’t take a break she would scream so she went home for a visit to England. Once in England it became very difficult to go back. She was staying with a friend of hers (who just happened to be a man) when Alexei found her. He jumped to a lot of conclusions and she didn’t correct his image. Alexei went home to Greece and Victoria stayed in England.
She built her own business and took care of herself. The time had come, however, for the marriage to be dealt with. Alexei would only do it on his soil so she returned to Greece one last time. Alexei’s offer for the dissolution left her in an interesting situation and now only time would tell.
I found this story to be an easy read as it flowed into each movement with ease. I found Victoria and Alexei to be quite strong individuals and quite frankly their deal was a bit strange. To be honest, I had to chuckle when they made their agreement because I knew full well the only reason it was being done was because they were still in love with each other but too proud to actually admit it. By agreeing to this deal, they could each say they were getting some revenge when in reality there was a totally different side. Bought By Her Husband really reflects the human conditions of pride, stubbornness, and determination but in the end, reality and caring.
