Samantha Jaworski has worked incredibly hard to get to where she is in her career as a "tool pusher" on an oil rig. She has become part of a male-dominated environment and earned her stripes. She is good at her job but finds that it no longer fills her needs. Sam is questioning whether it is time to try a new venture—a desk job, college classes, a long-term home. So many questions and Travis Bravo just added one more.

Travis is really tired of his mother trying to play match maker. Every time he comes home she has a line of "eligible" women waiting for him. His heart simply isn’t in it since losing the love of his life to an accident with a drunk driver. In fact, he isn’t sure if he will ever be ready. He doesn’t see a way out of going home this time though because his parents are renewing their wedding vows. Sam announcing that maybe she needs a change seems like an answer to his prayer.

He invites Sam to go home with him for Thanksgiving. Worried though that a simple girlfriend won’t suffice for his mother, a temporary engagement is arranged. Given that Sam was raised by her father and then has worked on oil rigs, she doesn’t exactly feel up to the challenge. A complete, professional make-over helps her over some of her fears, however. It also knocks Travis for a few loops when he sees the end result.

This story is the quintessential sweet, love story. So often, we are looking for something that is truly right under our noses. That’s what happens to this hero and heroine. They have been friends for years; in fact, they truly have become each other’s best friends because of the amount of time they spend together and joint interests. Because they have both been avoiding love so hard, however; they totally missed it. Watching their eyes being opened, the feelings magnify and then how to work through an announced engagement that was temporary and became permanent…whew, well it all leads to a heart-felt romance just in time for Christmas.
