It’s hard to start over but she had no choice; Addie Reid had a secret. Addie was a photographer by trade and very good at it but being the girlfriend of the notorious gang leader, Cliff Walker somehow overshadowed her skill. It didn’t matter that Addie never knew who Cliff really was since he used an alias. When Cliff was caught, tried and hanged, the real story came out. Addie’s so-called friends turned on her and she had to leave everything behind in a small Kansas town and started over in Dodge City.
New Deputy Marshall Miles Carr had a secret; he was ashamed to admit that the murdering gang leader, Cliff Walker was his step-brother. Miles was never one of the gang; it had been years since he had seen Cliff since Miles ran away from his abusive home when he was a teenager. Recently Miles became a Christian and is struggling with his past causing him to be insecure in his new-found faith.
When Miles meets Addie, he’s struck by her beauty both inside and out as well as her skill as a photographer. But when a member of the Walker gang, Vin Rutter, comes to town, crime seems to increase which constantly throws Addie and Miles together and their feelings begin to grow. It seems that Vin knows both Addie and Miles from their gang "connections" but neither of them knows that. They each privately assume that Vin is after them because of their past.
As usual, things are not what they seem. Will the criminal(s) be brought to justice? When the truth comes out, will Addie and Miles get past their secrets to trust each other and God for His best?
This is the first book I’ve read of Erica Vetsch and have to say that it made an impression. She has a way of creating strong endearing characters that have a passion for their goals and convictions then she sprinkles a little mystery, intrigue and romance, threaded with a little western history and creates a story well worth the read. I didn’t really come across an inspirational theme. Subtle inspiration seemed to be interspersed with the characters’ circumstances; yet for many of us it is our circumstances that drive us to God.
If you enjoy historical romance with a dash of inspiration, you’ll enjoy Addie and Miles’ story.
