Sarah Murphy is a young, attractive single woman and desires to remain single. After living with a drunken, unloving father she has no wish to repeat the pattern in the form of a husband. She need not depend on any one other than God.
Yet when she meets Dylan Eldredge, a handsome, seemingly caring man bent on something more permanent than her one-date-only policy, she begins to struggle with herself. In the long run, though, she wins the battle of wills against the cracking in the protective shield surrounding her heart.
It’s not until a night out with her best friend, Ellen, that she understands how freeing it is to forgive and sees her life and possible future in a whole new light.
I wish there had been more time to get to know Sarah and Dylan and see their relationship develop. It felt as if I were rushed through their courtship. But that wasn’t the theme of the story.
Here is a story that highlights the power of forgiveness. It also reminds us to be still and listen. That perhaps the direction we’re carving out for ourselves isn’t always the direction in which we’re supposed to go.
By The Book offers food for thought within the pages of a sweet blossoming romance.
