Gwenhwyfar has a dream man in her mind. A fantasy man who seems to grow larger than life and he certainly isn’t the man her father, Leodegrance, has decided she should marry. Even knowing this though, how can she possibly argue? Her father has agreed that she should marry Arthur, who has been chosen as the new king to unite England. What woman would walk away from a marriage with a man soon to be king and one who is attractive, well spoken and accepts her spirited ways.

Given that her fantasy man is simply a fantasy, Gwenhwyfar gives in to her father’s request. Not happily mind you because she enjoys where she is in life. However, she understands there are greater forces at work and she must go along with it. She also accepts that she really has no other choice.

That is until the day she meets Arthur’s second in command that has come to escort her to her new home. The Lance (he has been named this by his peers because of his warring skills) is the man she has dreamed of and the man who makes her heart race. Now her life has become even more complicated because her heart races for the man she now calls Lancelot but she also loves Arthur. She is committed to Arthur but spends most of her time with Lancelot.

As tensions begin to heat up with other warring factions and even within Arthur’s own family, things become very tense and everyone involved needs to make some very tough choices.

Cynthia Breeding is an incredibly thorough writer. I really enjoyed the scenes she laid out and the characters as she depicted them. Gwenhwyfar has gotten herself into a really tough situation and this could easily be turned into a modern day soap opera. The historical references were well on the mark and quite easily understandable even to someone who isn’t well versed in this time period.

The downside I found with Camelot’s Destiny is that the story has been told. I really didn’t find anything new to the story. Parts of the story were very familiar with locations such as Camelot and characters such as Morgana, Arthur and Lancelot. I am unsure why Gwenhwyfar’s name was different though. There were also quite a few secondary and tertiary characters that made things rather difficult to stay on top of.

That being said, however, if you haven’t read anything on Lancelot, Arthur and Genevieve, this is a great story.
