Samantha Spade is a lieutenant in the United States Air Force heading a team of scientists in Texas who test new weapons for the military. These weapons come from all sorts of different places. They come in from universities, other scientists and even amateurs who think their invention will be the next big thing. Samantha and her team have just received a doglike robot that can use biodegradable objects and turn them into energy for it to run itself. Samantha thinks they may have stumbled onto a real winning device when the dog suddenly thinks the back of someoneís truck is dinner. The owner of the truck comes out of a local restaurant shooting at Samantha and a fight breaks out. The owner ends up dead and Samantha finds herself in the middle of situation involving drugs, contract killers and kidnappings.
As Samantha starts to unravel the mystery of the unknown truck driver, who turns out to be on the FBIís most wanted list, she finds herself surrounded by family she hasnít heard from in years. Her ex-husband has even shown up looking to see if Samantha has gotten any money for finding the driver. Samantha is in a race against time and family to solve this mystery before her life is torn apart.
While this series wouldnít necessarily have caught my eye, I am really glad I was introduced to it. This is such a well written mystery and has all the elements that mystery lovers will embrace. It has drugs, kidnappings, car chases and even the Mob plays a small part in the book. Samantha is such a great heroine. One canít help but giggle at the outlandish predicaments that she gets herself into. She always handles it with her own brash ways and gets the bad guy in the end while being able to call herself part of our great military. If you like military driven mysteries definitely go out and get this one.
