Mermaid Angel Tritone is on a mission. She’s studies humans from afar for years and wants to get the director position for the new Coalition. The goal of the Coalition is to open up human and Mer interaction and talks. They hope to help humans find better ways to help the planet and all the animals by lest waste and more recycling. She’s got some great ideas, but her brother Rod, new leader of The Council, won’t even give her an interview, let alone a fair shot at the job.
When Angel hops onto a boat to avoid a shark attack, a little boy named Michael helps her stow away. While she might be a little wobbly on her legs, she’s glad Michael’s father, Logan, has strong arms to catch her. And Logan is not only strong, but good looking and willing to let her live with him…temporarily. He agrees to let Angel be Michael’s babysitter and she can live in his guesthouse.
Now she has to remember why she’s on land. She has to keep the Coalition top priority and keep her Mer status a secret. Will she be able to stay objective without losing her heart? Will Angel be able to keep her true identity a secret or will it come between them if she tells Logan the truth? Will Logan ever accept anyone who doesn’t fit his ‘normal’ mold?
Catch of a Lifetime is another thrilling addition to the Mer series. Angel Tritone is rapidly becoming my favorite Tritone to date. She is such a beautiful woman—inside and out—and doesn’t even realize how wonderful she really is. She is one of the middle children in her family and is tired of being "just Angel" instead of doing something great. She sees the Coalition as her chance to stand out for her own merits and is determined to get that job. But, her tender heart and love of animals and children might complicate matters.
Logan is a strong man who really could use a strong woman to help him out. Recently finding out he’s a father when his son is dumped on his doorstep by an ex-girlfriend; he’s striving to give Michael a normal life. Logan wants Michael to have the stability he never did when he was growing up. Estranged from his family, he’s going after single parenting without much of a clue. When he discovers Angel on his boat, he can’t get her out of his head. I was so happy he threw caution to the wind just once to let Angel stay with them. He’s another man with a macho exterior that has the heart of a softie.
I loved the way Angel and Logan dance around issues that would be too complicated. They try to hide some of the best parts of themselves from each other while pretending their attraction doesn’t exist. When they finally give into passion, I’m glad she’s a Mer and used to being in cool ocean waters because the romance and seduction is hot and steamy. You need the cooling effect of the ocean after this kind of loving. Beyond the bedroom, the characters are well developed and the plot moves along. This book stands alone nicely and could be read without reading the books that came before. The back-story dovetails nicely into the present story so returning readers won’t be bored. Judi Fennell packs a literary punch and I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out.
