Cherry Harte won the lottery - big time - on the same day she was left at the alter. She sees this as a chance to reinvent herself, to put her past behind her as well as her off-beat (to put it mildly) parents. So, Mystic Beach, FL here she comes, goals and dreams and sister in tow.
Luke Chance, former reporter - whose credibility was shot due to doing a favor for a friend - turned
mechanic (and coach for the kids at the Youth Center) is drawn into Cherry's crazy world on
several levels:
1) he has to repeatedly repair or check out her car because Moose, a 3ft. tall
"reimbursement specialist" keeps tampering with her Jag.
2) the Women's League she's trying to join to help with her self-reinvention is competing
with the Youth Center for a location for a new Horticulture Center...
3) he's just plain, though unwillingly, attracted to her.
Throw in a meddling, but well meaning Grandfather, a sister with possible hair issues, a father who's on the lam from the aforementioned Moose and his boss, an eccentric artist/poker player, a poodle who has a thing for skunks, and the ex-fiance and you've got a book that no one could call dull.
Got your attention? I hope so.
Cherry On Top is a charming and fun book with the underlying theme reminding us, showing us, to once in a while step back and re-evaluate our goal/dream. Sometimes what we want isn't always what's best.
The only thing that keeps this book from being perfect is its lack of an epilogue...you'll understand what I mean after you read it. For the most part that can be overlooked if we use our imaginations and fill in the blanks.
But overall, your attention will be captivated and diverted so much so that you'll find yourself tempted to read Cherry On Top in one sitting. It's a wonderful book to escape into!
