Two worlds are about to collide and things could get really touchy. First there is the world of Leah Hunter. Leah is an only child of parents who quite frankly have money to burn. She is working in the career created by her family. Their business has been around for generations but she still earned her job. She has everything she could want except her son. She married poorly at the age of 19 and when things got rough her husband took off with her little boy and she hasn’t seen him since. She has spent years looking for the child she dearly loved and wanted.
Then enter the world of Matt Whitaker. Matt is living in a Rosewood, Texas taking care of a little boy who has become his world. Years before, Matt’s brother had shown up on his doorstep asking to stay awhile with his little boy. It seems Matt’s sister-in-law (mother of the child) had taken off when she discovered that a little boy didn’t fit with her high-society life. Then to make matters worse, he was killed in a car accident shortly after that leaving Matt with his nephew, Danny. Danny quickly becomes the center of Matt’s universe.
The worlds began to come together when Leah got a clue as to where her son might be. She packed up and headed to Rosewood, Texas to find out for herself. Leah found her son and her brother-in-law and nothing was what she thought it would be. Matt didn’t take too kindly to this flighty woman showing up until he found out it wasn’t what he thought either. Interesting reaction when worlds collide.
Bonnie Winn creates an interesting tale of assumptions. We all know the definition of assume, right? But anyway…Leah made assumptions about her son’s life and Matt made assumptions about a woman he had never met. Child of Mine truly illustrates that withholding judgment can lead to so much more happiness than just grabbing what you think you want and running. Leah showed enormous strength, courage and compassion and ended up with more than she could have ever dreamed about. She portrayed true motherly love.
