Dear Readers,
Book number thirteen in the Chocoholic Mystery Series that feature Lee McKinney Woodyard, Aunt Nettie and TenHuis Chocolade.
TenHuis is a store that belongs to Aunt Nettie and Lee is the manager. When the story begins Nettie is planning a reunion of her old high school singing group called The Pier-O-Ettes. Lee is cleaning out their garage and finds an old trophy that was won by the Pier-O-Ettes many years before. Lee goes immediately, taking the trophy to her aunt and feeling that this will make a wonderful thing to bring out at the reunion. Instead it brings back sad memories as the night of a singing competition, where Aunt Nettie’s group won the trophy after their performance at the Castle Ballroom, the owner was shot to death. The insurance company called it suicide as they didn’t want to pay off; the owner’s wife insisted it was an accident; and the townspeople thought it was murder.
The Pier-O-Ettes never sang again and all the bad memories come back to haunt the people involved. Lee tries to figure out what really happened that night long ago that closed down a Lake Michigan Landmark. She needs to keep her eyes open and watch out for her aunt while hoping the trophy itself will help in solving the old case.
Excellent writing by JoAnna Carl and her character, Lee, sells delectable chocolate and tries to solve crimes while never losing her sense of humor. A very good read.
