Judith Graber, the ever dutiful daughter is having a hard time right now. Everyone counts on her doing what’s expected of her. Just once she wished someone would ask her opinion or give her a choice. That may be why she’s always had a hidden longing to befriend Ben Knox.

A few years ago Ben was the "bad boy" at their Amish school. He built this reputation to protect his heart. No one knew that his home-life was miserable, his mother up and left and his father took it out on him – and no one seemed to care. Ben took all he could take and finally left Sugarcreek. Rumors flew as to why Ben left and most were untrue but now he’s back to sell the old house where bad memories remained.

When Ben shows up at her family’s store, Judith is shocked. He makes her nervous and knowing the rumors she wants to steel her emotions against Ben. When Judith’s father hires Ben on a temporary basis, they are thrown together everyday. How will Judith be able to keep her emotions in check? Once again, her family didn’t ask her opinion.

Ben has always thought of Judith as the perfect opposite to his rebellious self. But Judith is way out of his league, there would be no hope of anything between them, besides he’s leaving Sugarcreek for good once the house sells.

But as each hour goes by the invisible heartstrings are pulling Judith and Ben together, though they are both being pulled "kicking and screaming". But Christmas is a special time and miracles happen when love starts budding.

Christmas in Sugarcreek tells a sweet story of what happens when you assume. The assumptions made of Ben gives you pause and Judith’s sense of duty is admirable. Ms Gray’s Amish research and knowledge are well spread throughout the story giving readers insight into the Amish lifestyle. She writes with sincerity of emotions giving her characters depth and her readers someone they’d like to call friend.

Ben and Judith’s tale is one that can be read any time of year so if you enjoy a good Amish story, then this one’s for you.
