Conner Creed just hasn’t been the same since his twin brother, Brody, and he had a falling out. A twin brother ought to know better than to steal away his twin’s girl. Conner may be over Joleen, the girl, but he’s never gotten over the betrayal of the one person who should be his fiercest supporter. And when Brody moves back to Lonesome Bend and announces he’s back for good, Conner is trying to find his own identity again with his twin around. Brody continually goads Conner and the two are bound for a fight that could permanently end their family ties.

In the meantime, Conner meets Tricia McCall. She is currently living with her grandmother, Natty, while waiting for some property that her father left her to sell. She can’t wait for the sold sign to go up so she can get back to Seattle and her boyfriend, Hunter, and actually getting to open an art gallery of her own. It’s been her lifelong dream to have a gallery and it looks like Hunter might be getting ready to fill another dream of hers. She already sees a sparkling ring on her finger…

Too bad that meeting Conner has caused a little amnesia. She can’t quite recall Hunter’s face without a photo. She is determined to sell her property and leave Lonesome Bend for good. It’s just that every time she talks to Conner, her mind wanders to possibly staying. She can’t figure out what to do and may flee Lonesome Bend to avoid making a decision.

Should she stay or should she go?

Tricia is normally a take-charge sort of gal. So waiting around for over a year in Lonesome Bend hasn’t been a picnic. She’s living life in limbo. She needs to sell the campground and movie theater her father owned to pay off his debts and to be able to walk away. Although it’s hard to live in a state of transition, she has thoroughly enjoyed getting to really connect with her grandmother, Natty. Natty might be a secondary character in the story, but she’s my favorite one. She’s got a joie de vivre that is incomparable.

Conner has a mighty big chip on his shoulder. In a way, I was glad to see Brody finally come back around and begin to attempt to mend the rift. I’m not sure if they will ever be able to heal their relationship, but I was glad to see Brody try. Conner is a hard working, honest, straight shooter who does everything he does with passion and purpose. And when he falls for a woman, it’s the forever-after kind of fall. It’s not a here today and gone tomorrow experience. Which is why he is so slow to act. He won’t make a Joleen sized mistake ever again.

This is the second book of the latest Creed trio of stories. While I loved the first one for it’s totally unique perspective and fresh storytelling, I felt like this one was a little more cookie cutter. While I loved the characters and the story, I felt like it was re-reading parts of other books by Ms. Miller that I’ve read before. I think it’s a matter of your point of view. If you have read every one of her books like I have, you start to see the patterns the author uses and know how the author thinks.

That kind of knowledge makes the elements of surprise become a little more diminished. If you aren’t as familiar with Linda Lael Miller, she writes the best modern cowboy romances with men who are hotter than a branding iron. Overall, it’s another wonderful cowboy story with old-fashioned values put into modern day living. I enjoyed the book and am glad I read it.
