Do you remember your childhood diary, the one where you wrote about your crush, who you were going to marry, and the names of your future children? The one where you wrote all your secret hopes and dreams. The same one that would cause you endless embarrassment if its contents were ever made public? Well, image if that diary was your lifeline. The very essence of who you were, yet had to be hidden away to not cause you any undue harm or duress. Hard to imagine isnít it. Yet, our heroine finds herself in this very precarious position.

Ten years ago, the two main characters had it all, they had each other. Yet, a fatherís betrayal ended it all. Causing both of them to live in different forms of prisonsí. One, the prisoner of family responsibilities and an extreme sense of responsibility. The other, trapped in a marriage to a cruel and vicious person, intent on adding a broken Olivia to his art collection.

Olivia Rathbourne finds herself in trapped in a loveless marriage, to a man that is neither kind nor loving. And suddenly she is free when her husband is murdered. At last Olivia feels a sense of freedom and sets out to get HER life back. The best place for her to end her ten years of torture is start crossing items off her secret list, her list of her inner most desires. Her list to get herself back. The very list that she guarded with her life, to prevent her husband from inflicting more harm on her.

Enter Sterling, the Earl of Wyldewood. He and Olivia were lovers ten years ago, planning to spend their life together as husband and wife. Both harbor deep seeded feelings of anger, betrayal, and loss directed at the other, for different and unknown reasons. Sterling, wants to begin again and make olive his. Olivia wants to make her life her own.

The story that follows is of two people finding themselves and finding their way back to each other. Itís a story filled with longing, adventure, forgiveness, betrayal, friendship, and loyalty. Itís a story centered on making the most of your circumstances, with odd little twists, turns, and mysteries.

I really did enjoy this book, and found it to be very well written. But, I would have liked to see more romance and interaction between the two main characters instead of so much self-discovery. I enjoyed the traveling plot twists and the charismatic secondary characters. I would definitely read another Victoria Alexander novel, and would definitely like to see some of the secondary characters in this book get their own book.
