Hannah Swensen, baker extraordinaire, is also the town’s amateur detective. She and her sisters Andrea and Michelle have helped her investigate numerous crimes. This time, however, she’s not so sure she can solve this one:

Reverend Matthew spent time in Lake Eden. To be more precise he spent a portion of his teen life in the parsonage. Now he is back in Lake Eden substituting for Reverend Bob as he relaxes on his honeymoon. Grandma Knudson has her doubts about Reverend Matthew’s identity. He doesn’t seem the same as when she knew him at the parsonage.

Of course Hannah is asked to learn what she can about Reverend Matthew. Once everything is cleared up to their satisfacion, all can breathe a sigh of relief…until Hannah discovers Reverend Matthew’s body, cold and lifeless.

Plan of action? Investigate of course!

To Hannah’s frustration this case isn’t presenting itself with many viable clues, mainly dead ends. Sometimes things aren’t what they seem and then in turn those things aren’t what they seem, either, and so on...

Confused? Well, stick with Hannah. She’s a good detective. Even when it comes to some of her more baffling cases.

Revisiting Lake Eden is always relaxing yet never dull. You can count on Hannah and her family and friends to make you feel comfortable and more than welcome to join the investigation.

Those of you who are familiar with Hannah know she’s quite the no-nonsense character with a sparse but different kind of sense of humor. Lately though I’ve been seeing a little vulnerability showing through, centering on her relationships with (dentist) Norman and (detective) Mike. Just when she thought she had things figured out on that front everything is turned upside down.

With the added bonus of numerous delicious recipes, Joanne Fluke presents the reader with a mystery in true cozy fashion. And may I add a cliffhanger, too?

Happy reading!
Connie
