Lady Artemisia, Duchess of Southwyke, a young widow, has been
creating quite a stir in Victorian society with her paintings of nudes.
When Trevelyn Deveridge, the second son of an earl and a spy seeking
information on a person connected to Artemisia's family, is mistaken for
Artemisia's new model, he sees an opportunity to discover the
information he needs. The sparks fly between Trevelyn and Artemisia but
danger lurks, and they have secrets from each other.
Distracting the Duchess is a thrilling, action-packed romance filled with humor and suspense. Artemisia is not content to stand meekly on the sidelines, she, instead, aids her man and her country. Luckily, there are no "too stupid to live" moments for Artemisia, for she carries on in a smart brave manner. Trevelyn has cultivated the image of a worthless second son, in order, to carry out his spying missions. However, nothing can be farther from the truth, Trevelyn is strong, intelligent, and surprisingly, accepting of Artemisia's independent nature. These two people perfectly complement each other, and it is a pleasure to read their story.
