Donovan McRae is a world-renown architect who has shut himself away from the world after an accident on the mountain. It left him struggling to walk again and to get relief from the pain. He has spent a lifetime doing it all (mountain climbing was but one daredevil way to live his life). Given that, maybe he has had his run and it is time to him to just step back.
He takes a chance though because he feels strongly about building the Help the Children Foundation and takes Abilene Bravo on as an apprentice because of her insight into the building. He is going to provide his name to the project and she will provide the rest. Abilene wonders though if she got all of the information she should have. She can’t deny, however, the incredible opportunity she is being given.
They both struggle a bit when the hours of working together begin to ignite some feelings between them. He isn’t used to someone telling him he’s full of it and she doesn’t know how to deal with someone who won’t help themselves in the right way. But that is only the beginning of the feelings that bloom between them.
Christine Rimmer has created a story that is very reflective of real life. Donovan has suffered after a terrible accident. Because of that he has developed moods and people tiptop around him. Abilene walks in like a breath of fresh air and isn’t going to play this game with him. He can either meet her halfway or she’ll move on. Of course, in the process, her heart gets real attached to this stubborn man. Now keep in mind, she can’t see her own stubbornness in the process. Donovan’s Child is really an enjoyable read but be prepared…Abilene won’t let you sit around and feel sorry for yourself. You will join the story – or else.
