Audra Walker has been a part of the ‘Wicked Chicks’ for as long as she can remember. Her friends are all confident, sexy women who know what they want when it comes to a man. So does Audra. However her wicked chick girlfriends start to doubt her ability to be one of them any more. They dare her to seduce the first man that walks into the bar, and wild girl Audra feels the need to prove her just how wicked she can be. However the first man that walks into the bar is not exactly her style. But a dare is a dare.

Jesse Martinez is a Detective with the Sacramento Police Department. He is undercover in the bar watching a suspect - the same suspect that Audra has been dared to seduce. Jesse is instantly attracted to the stunning Audra and wants to know what her connection can be to the guy he’s watching, He soon finds out there is much more to Audra Walker than just being a possible suspect. But can Jesse be the professional crime investigator when Audra makes his blood run wild with wanting her?

The mutual attraction between Audra and Jesse is a complication. Jesse does not want to get involved with a possible crook. He’s hunting the connections of a Chinese Triad He knows it’s not fair using Audra to pursue his investigations but Audra’s lure is hard to dismiss. Audra in turn can’t work out why hot guy Jesse doesn’t want to have sex with her straight away. It’s kind of sweet but is there more to it? And why is her job as lingerie designer dealing with Chinese Lingerie buyers of interest to Jesse? Is it all just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time for Audra and Jesse? Can they overcome the misunderstandings?

The thing I liked about Audra is that she is a smart, confident woman who had a wild child past but she is not about to apologize for it. However, she does begin to wonder about her friends the ‘wild chicks’ and the fact that she may be outgrowing them and their ideas. There is an element of doing things to fit in with a group but there is also the also the strong stance of taking control of your life and being empowered by the decisions you make. I liked how she slowly started to look at Jesse as being more than a sexual conquest. As for Jesse, he is the man you fantasize turning up on your doorstep.

And yes, there is hot, steamy sex in Double Dare. However it’s more a slow seduction than a wild, meaningless romp as Audra is intrigued by Jesse’s approach to their relationship. The fact that Audra views dating someone before having sex as a novel concept was amusing but it got to the heart of her character and you begin to see how Audra’s life was shaped by her past.

Audra’s ‘wicked chick’ friends annoyed me with their juvenile high school outlook - but then they were supposed to as you want to see Audra evolve out of the mentality of this group.

Double Dare is about sexual tension and falling in love without even realizing you are doing it. That’s what you want in a romance novel. If you like it hot and steamy this one is for you.
