Lady Siusan Sinclair is depressed the night of the gala to welcome the Duke of Exeter because it is the anniversary of her fiancé’s death. When she is mistaken for the woman the Duke was meeting, Siusan goes along with it because she is lonely. After realizing that she has had a tryst with the Duke of Exeter, Siusan flees the party with her siblings.

Sebastian Beaufort, the Fourth Duke of Exeter, has only recently become a duke after his brother's fatal accident, and he hopes to reestablish the family's good name. Unfortunately, having a tryst with an unknown woman in his library is starting off on the wrong foot. Siusan's father, who is, also, a duke, has renounced his seven children until they can prove worthy of the family name, and Siusan craves her father's approval. So when Sebastian comes looking for her, Siusan flees and takes on a teaching position under an assumed name. Unfortunately, Sebastian's ward is a student at the academy where Siusan teaches.

The Duke's Night of Sin is a delightful regency romance with great characters. Siusan makes some missteps in an attempt to win her father's approval, but in the end learns what truly matters. I loved the fact that Siusan is a very capable young woman who doesn't need a man to save her. Poor Sebastian, who is trying to do the right thing, is led on a merry chase by Siusan and has to persevere in order to find true love. The only minor quibble that I had with this book is Siusan's continued fleeing from Sebastian, which can be explained by her intense need for her father's approval. For an intelligent, capable woman, Siusan has some major father issues, but that is understandable for a child with an alcoholic father.

All in all, The Duke's Night of Sin is a delightful read, which I recommend. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series with great anticipation.
