As Catriona O'Connell, better known as Cat, looked at the task before her she wondered what she has gotten herself into. All she had to do was find a diary; so of course the room it was said to be in would hold hundreds if not thousands of books. Hoping not to get caught by the owner of the house, Cat goes to the one place she would keep a diary, the desk. Jackpot! Cat finds the diary in a locked drawer just as the door opens and the owner of the house, Aidan Douglas, appears. The diary had belonged to Aidan's father, the now deceased Earl of Kilronan.

As Aidan apprehends Cat to put her somewhere for the night he realizes something special about her that is also special about him. She is Other, or Fey/magical just like he is. With this realization he decides to not turn her in but to strike a deal with her instead. When Aidan had walked in on Cat with his father's diary he had noticed that she was reading or attempting to read it anyway. What makes this diary special is that it is written in a special language that not very many if any can read. The fact that Cat can makes her valuable to Aidan.

A few people, including Aidan, want to know whatever the diary contains. An evil man named Lazarus is also after the diary and when he attacks Kilronan House, which sends Aidan and Cat on the run.

Aidan first takes them to Knockniry, the home of Daz Ahern, one of his father's best friends and a man that was like an Uncle to Aidan. While there, Cat gets busy deciphering the diary…that is until Lazarus finds them yet again. It is at this moment when Aidan decides to take Cat to his childhood home, Belfoyle.

Belfoyle is where the final battle over the diary will take place and also where Aidan will decide that he just cannot live without Cat in his life. All through the book Aidan and Cat fought their feelings for one another. Cat was even considering becoming Aidan's mistress so he could marry a woman or better stature and not lose him all together. It is just amazing to me how an author can write two characters and find a way to get them to fall in love no matter the circumstances or what is in their way. That is one reason why I love to read romances especially the historical ones. Though Aidan and Cat are a special couple cause of their magical blood it still goes to show that even back then if you had found your soul mate you can and will find a way to be together.
