Layna Bennett has always felt something wasn’t right in her life, and right now she’s at her lowest. Until she receives a strange letter in the mail. It’s written on strange paper in old-fashioned handwriting and speaks of a journey she’s about to take. One she certainly didn’t plan for...

Ending up on a plantation in 1870 definitely isn’t what she expected. Yet for some reason she feels as if she were home, where she belonged. But it’s not going to be as easy as all that.

Trey Margeaut believes she’s his wife. His cruel, faithless wife. And no matter how she tries to gain his trust, she’s treated as a pariah. Yet it’s Trey who treats her the worst, even when the servants, Gracie and Jackson, and his sister, Ann, begin to come around.

There’s proof, both physical and visual, that his wife is not as she was, but Trey can’t seem to grasp the possibility that Layna is not Alayna. It’s impossible, it’s a trick. Alayna is biding her time, lulling them into complacency, waiting to resume her reign of terror over the house.

Unfortunately for Layna, each time she feels as if she’s made some progress with Trey, or his family, tragedy follows only to confirm in Trey’s mind she’s the wife he always knew.

Feisty as Layna is, she’s not afraid to tell Trey off, nor is she afraid to make herself useful around the plantation. But she is afraid he’ll never come around to accept her love.

Ms. Cassidy has written a story full of raging emotions and plenty of conflicts. It’s also full of bold and vivid characters. Layna is to be admired for her strength and love, all of which saw her through much pain and anger. Anyone has to be special to put up with a man who runs hot and cold, a man who is at times callous. She’s patient, knowing their love will be everlasting.

The writing, at times, was by turns formal, stiff, and flowery. Every character in the book has a POV. Those distractions soon become nearly imperceptible as the story dramatically unfolds.

Everlasting Journey is a pleasant yet touching journey to true love and happily ever after. You may find your heartstrings tugged a time or two as you feel Layna and Trey’s pain.
