Zoe Bravo just had the most interesting interview of her life. Imagine being told by the man across the desk that there is to be no emotional/romantic entanglement between the two of you. How is a girl to respond to that? Zoe wants this job—in part because she is ready for a challenge and in part because she wants to prove something to her family. Dax Girard had better just get used to her instead of the other way around.

Dax doesn’t quite know what to make of the smart, dynamic woman applying for the job as his assistant. Given that her mother kind of set up this encounter, this woman wasn’t quite what he bargained for. He is even more surprised to find out that she is really good at her job and is proving indispensable.

Things come to head on the first trip he includes her on. It is all business and above board because neither of them is looking for anything else. However, the weather plays a sneaky trick on them and their plane ends up going down in a deserted forest area of Mexico. Dax has some pretty serious injuries so Zoe literally saves his life and as he heals, emotions truly rise to the forefront. They make a pact that when they return home it will be business as usual but again, they find this much more difficult than they thought.

Christine Rimmer certainly knows how to set a scene. I have to say she caught me from the very beginning with the interview scene as I tried to picture how strange that would have been in real life. I couldn’t help but chuckling as I listened in on their conversation. While we all love an alpha male, this book shows the strength a woman brings to the relationship. Dax is certainly a strong counterpart in this adventure but he doesn’t allow himself to become emasculated just because Zoe is equal to him in many ways.

Expecting the Boss’s Baby as a title may give a bit of the story away but there is a whole lot more to this story than just what the title suggests.
