The heroine of this series is Vicky Hill, an obituary writer for the local paper in the town of Gipping-on-Plym.
It's snail-racing season in town (no kidding!!!). And, when Vicky gets an early morning phone call telling her to go to St. Peter's Church to see about and write about a local funeral, Vicky jumps out of bed and runs to the church. A local busybody tells her about the hush, hush funeral of a local celebrity Scarlett Flemming, which is being planned by her husband Doug. The whole town is frustrated by the sudden death and strangely quiet funeral. Apparently, in life, Scarlett was no shrinking violet. Vicky's suspicious mind is taxed when she finds out about the Flemming's shaky financial dealings and Doug has a number of female admirers. Almost as many as Scarlett had enemies. While questioning suspects Vicky must stay a step ahead of a killer when said killer realizes she is no longer just writing an obit. She's writing an expose!!!
Hannah Dennison is a delightfully clever mystery writer that I have never read before. However, I mean to remedy that soon. Her heroine is charmingly gullible and gets herself into a lot of tight spots. The plot is very Agatha Christie like and Vicky Hill is delightful and very amusing. Don't miss this cozy English mystery, you'll love it.
I'll talk to you soon,
