Andrea Montgomery had loved deeply once in her life but that love hadn’t ended the way she had envisioned. Clayton Dean was that love. What could be better – they had been high school sweethearts and he knew her better than anyone on this earth. They had even been planning to work together at Dean Yachts – marrying both their skills and just plain being together. This dream all shattered the day Clayton left town without a word – a message on her answering machine didn’t count!

Clayton left that day for a very deep reason but one he didn’t feel he could ever share with any one but especially Andrea. His life had been torn apart in ways she couldn’t imagine the day he left but it had to stay secret no matter the cost – even his own happiness.

Not only did Clayton lose his love that day, he lost a company his grandfather had built and he dearly loved (Dean Yachts), his home town and friends and even his family. Clayton and his father quit speaking to each other that day. Granted he still had some contact with his mother but that was the extent of his involvement with Wilmington. Until…the day he received a call from his mother needing him to come home. His father had had a stroke and the company needed Clayton at the helm until his father’s health improved. His mother had complete faith in Clayton since he had built his own company in Florida. Clayton had a serious decision to make – could he come back to Wilmington knowing he would have contact with his father and even more importantly, contact with Andrea who was now a VP for Marketing with Dean Yachts. He really didn’t know. Quite frankly, neither did Andrea on the other side.

It seems all of their lives had been changed. Once long ago the day Clayton left and now again on the day he will return.

I won’t give any of the story away by sharing what the secret haunting Clayton might be but it certainly is an interesting twist in the plot and one that any young man would have trouble dealing with on his own. Through the course of the story, we watch this man (still young in this one aspect) begin to finally deal with the secret which has been holding him captive. And I do mean captive even when he was in Florida. Secrets have a way of doing that…don’t they?

We also begin to watch Andrea heal her hurts. She originally purchased a man on the auction block for a charity as a way to show the world that while she was nearing 30, she had completely wiped the love she had for this man away. She was doing just fine. Don’t we all fall prey to just this sort of thinking. Yep, we will show the world but the world ends up showing us.
