Mercedes "Mercy" Allcutt, is a Boston native who has relocated to Los Angeles. She lives with her married sister in the city and is a secretary to a Private Investigator. Mercy and her sister Chloe wanted to leave Boston behind as their parents were a little to Boston Brahmin for the girls. So, when Chloe married a man from Los Angeles it was a perfect situation for them to get away. Although Mercy had enough money to take care of herself, she wanted to be independent so, she secured a job with a former policeman and now Private Investigator, Ernie Templeton. Although she has gotten into trouble a few times she is adamant about staying with the job. One day, Mercy starts out to locate Ernie and in the process finds a dead body and also she finds Ernie tied up and gagged. When the authorities arrive they decide that Ernie is the culprit and Mercy will not let them get away with that so she takes it upon herself to investigate. The victim was Mrs. Persephone Chalmers, who was deeply involved in a religious group at a place called Angelica Gospel Hall. After worming her way into the Hall and Mrs. Chambers business with it Mercy is beginning to think that she might not survive this investigation.
A well written mystery with a brave and spirited heroine who, along with her tough talking boss work together to solve mysteries in a humorous tale of Old Hollywood and sinful Los Angeles. I highly recommend this book to all mystery readers regardless of what type you generally read. So enjoy, and I'll talk to you soon.
