Lacy Lancaster is like many of us as we approach middle age. She has come through a divorce that has really thrown her for a loop. She has moved to San Francisco and is starting over. She has decorated it just the way she wanted. She eats what she wants and even plants the flowers she wants. Her greatest companion is a cat who adopted her – Cleo. Since Cleo is a pure-bred, maybe one day Lacy will breed her and add to her family. Each day is a little better than the day before and laying low is going well for her.
Until the day Cleo decides to visit next door. Jack Walker is hardly a man she wants to spend time with. Women flow through there all the time and he is constantly arguing with one particular one who keeps coming back for more punishment from him. Cleo had a wonderful time with Jack’s cat and soon, Jack and Lacy find themselves intertwined because of the family these two kitties create.
Family Affair is really a cute little story. It is a quick read with a beautiful storyline. Debbie Macomber has quite successfully created characters with some depth, especially in such a short story. Lacy is a heroine I think every woman out there can relate to as she tries to figure out her place in a new life. It certainly won’t disappoint any reader.
