She never expected to get a job so quickly upon arriving in Hessel MI, and thankful though she was for good honest work, Rona Meyers longed for something else, something other than what waiting tables could give her. Something more than just a job, and when she met Nick Thornton that feeling grew.
Even though she had found work at the diner, Nick offered Rona a job as housekeeper for him and his troubled teenage son, Gary. There was something about her that tugged at him. Something that made him want to get to know her better.
With their pasts coloring the present Nick and Rona handle their problems and situations differently. Nick looks to the Lord and leaves his troubles at His doorstep, while Rona holds her angst and bitterness in thinking God has abandoned her.
As their relationship grows, so do their troubles. But God works in mysterious ways as well as in His own time.
Ms. Martin has once again penned a sweet love story. Her characters are flawed and only too human, but have a genuine desire to be a better person, to trust in God.
This quiet and unassuming story is layered with love and pain and messages of trust and forgiveness. An inspiring read.
