Armed only with determination, trepidation, and an old photo, Miranda Carson goes on a journey that may very well alter her life in more ways than one...
Miranda never knew her father. Never knew of him. Her mother refused to speak of him, instead, creating an elaborate tale as only a stage actress could. That all changed one day when Miranda happened upon a document and an old photo of a man dressed as Father Christmas with a young boy at his knee. This evidence proves she does have a father. Somewhere. This knowledge generates a barrier between Miranda and her mother, and within herself.
Many years later Miranda impulsively travels to England at Christmas in search of her father. She really doesn't know what she'll find or what she'll do if she finds this nameless man. Any plans she does have are changed one by one when she meets a family and their friends who draw her to them, share their home and their Christmas with her. Their warmth and friendship only make her decisions harder to make and follow through. Perhaps the warmth and enlightenment that flickers during the Christmas morning service will help her discern what decisions need to be made, if at all.
Robin Jones Gunn has written a sensitive and eloquent story. One that touches on tradition, nostalgia, belonging, and healing; plus gives the knowledge that even when we feel alone in the world, we're never truly alone. One that may give us pause to ask ourselves, "is it finally Christmas in my heart, my life?"
Finding Father Christmas will evoke a kaleidoscope of thoughts and emotions within the reader. While each reader may get something different from Miranda and her tale, there is food for thought and emotions to be felt within the pages of this book.
Truly a charming and heartwarming story. One that may find its way as being part of my own personal Christmas tradition.
