Grace Welburne, who was raised as the only child of a white plantation owner, learned that her biological mother was mulatto. She learned this, when her uncle was attempting to molest her at the age of ten. Needless to say, Grace was traumatized by the information. She, also, learned that the woman, who she believed was her mother, was her mother's white sister.

Twelve years later, Grace's father is determined to marry her off, so that he can have a heir for his plantation. Unfortunately, Grace has vowed to never marry, because of the fear that her African ancestry will be discovered. Grace's father invites Giles Courtney, a former privateer, to their house in hopes that Grace will marry him. Grace finds much to admire in Giles' attitude towards Africans and slavery and soon agrees to marry him. How will Giles react, when he learns Grace's secret?

For Her Love is a historical romance, which tackles many issues of its time. The subjects of slavery, prostitution, and child abuse are portrayed realistically. The struggles of Giles and Grace are heart wrenching and the descriptions of these past times are vivid. Giles is one of the most steadfast heroes, that I have ever read, and I found myself falling a little in love with him. Unfortunately, For Her Love was a little too dark for my tastes, but I recommend it to the reader who likes darker romances.
