Tarrant-Arragon is the Emperor and leader of the Star Forces of an alien world called Tigron which is inhabited by a culture known as the Djinns. Tarrant is the last of the strong pure-bred race and is looking for a bride to continue the line. However, she needs to be a bride with Djinn blood running through her veins as well a virgin. After being publicly humiliated on his home planet when the bride he had chosen was proven to not be a virgin (not once but twice), Tarrant takes his quest "on the road" so to speak.

He learns of a cousin who had left the plant to explore and in the process fell in love with an earthling and they had a daughter. His quest for a bride then takes Tarrant to Earth, England to be exact, to find this daughter.

Djinni has no idea that Tarrant is the emperor of this other world and as such her sworn enemy when she meets him at a social function. In his desire to marry her and produce an heir, Tarrant decides to not disclose that little bit of information until after they are married. Djinni has become part of a group called the Saurian Knight’s who are bent on overthrowing Tarrant and she is betrothed to the commander of that group and the daughter of the leader. After not being allowed to bring his earthling bride back to the home planet, her father had begun this quest to overthrow the other side of the family.

Tarrant can see what he is up against but that is no deterrent to a leader and warrior such as himself so he captures Djinni and spirits her back to the home planet while wooing her. While in route to Tigron, Tarrant teaches Djinni some of his native language because as the empress she will be expected to speak the language – but only some. He also teaches her a "love poem" that they will recite together at a party to welcome her.

Little did Djinni know that what she was really reciting was her wedding vows!!!

As a Science Fiction book (and sci fi is around my home a lot with my husband and kids being Star Wars and Star Trek fans), this story would be absolutely a fantastic book for any woman to read. However, as a romance and for someone who doesn’t read a lot of science fiction/futuristic books, I found Forced Mate to be really hard to get involved with. About half way through the book, I began to get the hang of the way they spoke and thought but it took some effort to get there.

I found Rowena to be a good writer. She has a way of blending humor and action into the same scene that is quite creative and entertaining. This is a creation that you will need to use your intellect and think through the scenes as you are reading them. If you don’t care for science fiction this is not a book that will intrigue you. However, if you like pondering foreign galaxies and thinking of other planetary cultures, you will enjoy this book to its fullest.
