Dear Readers:
The end for the Duvoisin family saga is literally a historical Melrose Place – which means, it’s a whole lot of fun.
In previous books we were introduced to this large family. The patriarch is named Frederic. Frederic is a man who fathered children by many women and literally stole the love of his son’s life away from him to call his own. John and Paul are Frederic’s sons. John lives in Richmond, Virginia – where he fled when his father took his love, Colette from him. Now Colette was pregnant with John’s child. Colette and the child both died and John has never forgiven himself for not going back home to Charmantes to see his son, Pierre, before he drowned in a nearby lake. He has forever held a grudge against his father for ruining his one chance at happiness.
Paul is the shipping magnate of the family. He is the son who is building an empire and falling for the nanny who lives in the manor house. The nanny’s name is Charmaine and she has always secretly harbored the wish that she could marry John - whom she has loved all her life. But, seeing as that John will most likely not return to the island anytime soon, she begins to see Paul in a whole new light.
John keeps to himself in Richmond on his plantation. John runs two plantations and has freed all the slaves that work for him – granting them their freedom. His own overseer is a freed slave who is very loyal to his boss.
Agatha is Frederic’s wife. She was the sister of Elizabeth – Frederic’s first wife. Agatha had met Frederic first many years ago, but through the devilishness’ of her own brother, she was kept away from Frederic and Frederic turned to Elizabeth for comfort. Now, Agatha is being blackmailed by a priest on the island for he knows the murderous secret that she has kept all these years. She is also my absolutely favorite character. This woman has done more to herself and others, and has a monumental secret that was brought on by the strange love her own brother had for her all their lives.
Whose child belongs to whom? Is the shipping magnate son illegitimate? Does John live the nanny as much as she loves him, but simply can’t get over Colette who was stripped from him by his own father? Literally, readers, this could be an hour-long drama on TNT every week – it’s that good.
My suggestion is to start with book number one called, A Silent Ocean Away and then move on to number two, Decision and Destiny. These authors are two sisters who have spent their writing careers building a dysfunctional family that won’t soon be forgotten.
Enjoy!
Until next time, Amy
