Lisa Tawn Bergren has done it again. She’s taken precious Little Cub and uses her questions on why we are supposed to love everyone to answer questions even we grown ups have. Grampa Bear explains to Little Cub all about the different kinds of love that exist. He also helps remind Little Cub—and us—about loving even those who seem unlovable.
I laughed out loud when Little Cub is so frustrated at the otters for their play. The boisterous otters scared the fish away from where she and Grampa are fishing. When she tells Grampa that she loves the otters, but just doesn’t like them right now, I was hooked. How many times have I said similar things to my own children? How many times have they said the same to me? The way they talk about this makes sense to all of my children.
I was thrilled that all of my children—even the one that’s 3 years old—were entranced by the story. The engaging pictures by Laura J. Bryant only add to the beautiful story. If you’ve never read the other God Gave Us books, you’ll want to rush out and get every one of them. Each one is unique and captures my children’s hearts about different events or feelings. Lisa Tawn Bergren’s God Gave Us Love is a poignant way to remind your children of the love God has for them, especially before tucking them in at night.
