Dear Readers:

Warning…Warning…Debut Novel! I love debut novels. You just never know when you’re going to run across a writer who finally got their chance to shine. I’d love to tell you this is one of them. So I will!

New Falls, NY is where the "upper crust" of society spends their time rattling away in their mansions and salons while their industrious husbands travel into the city and become masters of their own universe. The "trophy" wives are headed into middle age, and dealing with all the atrocities that go with it: Sagging skin, eye wrinkles, murder. Yes…murder! Kitty, part of the illustrious group, is found standing over the body of her ex-husband with the gun still smoking in her hand. He’d recently divorced her to marry Yolanda, a salon-girl who’d struck it rich with her big score. Kitty’s friends, or the closest thing to a friend in that part of "Snob Hill", try to find out who did the real shooting and clear Kitty’s name. Unfortunately, as they dig into the deceased’s life, secrets start to appear from the depths of each woman’s bling-filled closet.

These characters are delightful and delicious. Caroline: the society woman who is most definitely "in charge." Everyone in town waits in sweaty anticipation for an invite to one of Caroline’s parties. But facelifts, a jilted daughter, and a husband who is absent from her life are not her only problems. Bridget: The European who makes sure she throws lofty-accented words into every sentence is harboring not only a secret, but an entirely different life from the one she shows to the ladies of New Falls. Lauren: Wrapped up in the life of the deceased, her secrets may just point to her as the real murderer. And, of course, there’s Dana. This is the main character; the one who did not come from the "silver-spoon" background. She has her feet firmly on the ground and is determined to find out what on earth is going on behind the hand-carved doors of her friends.

Fun, hip, fabulous. Forget Desperate Housewives, Abby Drake has put together a story that never settles for the "oh, feel bad for me even though I have forty billion dollars" mentality. Her characters are real in a very un-real world. Good for you! I look forward to more gems in your career.
