In her rumschpringe, Shanna Stoltzfus, ran away from her home and Amish community to attend school and become a nurse. Already Shanna has become an LPN but needs a couple more semesters to become the registered nurse she dreams of. With summer here and her funds depleted she has come home, hoping that her Daed will allow her to stay for the summer but fearing he won’t since she didn’t leave on good terms.
Matthew Yoder has come to the Stoltzfus household from Lancaster County, PA as a type of "exchange" or swap that the Amish offered young men. Matthew loves the area, loves the Amish ways and loves God. He hopes to be able to buy a farm not too far from the Stoltzfus.
Electricity was not permitted in their Amish community but from the moment Shanna and Matthew met sparks were in the air. Shanna enjoyed most of the Englisch ways and planned to continue down that path and Matthew was deep into the Amish ways. Shanna was a bit bold, flirty and sometimes reckless, while Matthew was steady, reliable, somewhat cautious and very Amish.
With so many roadblocks between Englisch and Amish can two complete opposites come to together? Will Shanna and Matthew be able to see the plan God has for them? Will the Amish community be able to acknowledge that there is good that can come from an education?
In the second book in the Amish of Seymour County series; A Harvest of Hearts brings two opposite people, their dreams and ambitions together but how they get there gives the reader insight into the Amish ways. Ms Hilton’s research helps her readers understand the reasons behind some of the Amish traditions yet creates characters that are easy to relate to, understanding their need to pursue dreams even at the risk of being shunned.
The inspirational message that God can turn seemingly bad situations into good is a great reminder that God is in everything, though at times, it may not seem like it.
If you enjoy a good Amish romance, then Shanna and Matthew’s story is for you.
