Beth Albright is a paranormal investigator. She makes her living out of investigating haunted houses. When she is called to Hoblington Grange, an old house that the owners believe is haunted, the ghosts she finds aren’t just those of a strangers past. There are ghosts of her own that lurk between the Georgian walls. Can Beth be the professional the job requires or will the personal stuff get in the way?

Sam Aston-Wilkes is the owner of Hoblington Grange. He was once deeply in love with Beth Albright. But threat of family genetics made him force her from his life. But now she is back and so are the feelings he has long denied himself. He is not sure if he believes in ghosts and less sure he wants Beth back in his life stirring up memories. Can he have a future with Beth is does the past have too strong a hold on him?

But strong emotion and sexual tension even amidst a spooky, unsettled atmosphere is hard to ignore. Beth and Sam start to wonder if their love for each other ever died and if there is any hope at all of them being together. But their feelings and the ghosts of the past are not the only things that have to deal with; it’s also the living and their greedy, vengeful plans.

Haunted Hearts is about closure and bringing peace to the dead and promise to the living. I liked the theme of friendly forces at the Grange pushing Beth and Sam together. I also liked that you never really know until well into the novel what broke the two lovers up. Beth and Sam’s story is told interwoven with the characters of the past. And yes, there is a villain, and I liked the way he got his comeuppance.

Both Beth and Sam are likeable. Beth is strong and determined and whilst not understanding the reasons behind their break up, she is prepared to move on with her own life and not sit around moping after a man. To me, Sam is like the strong, silent, stoic type of hero you see in movies. There is a pain behind the façade but he never lets on until the end. The slow burning sexual tension between them keeps the story ticking along nicely.

I am a big fan of anything paranormal. Haunted Hearts is spooky and romantic and definitely worth reading.
