Beth Ann Decker is getting really tired of being called Poor Beth Ann. Granted, she has struggled to get as far as she has but she would really like to put the accident of long ago behind her. Beth Ann once had the whole world ahead of her and her friends. Until the night of homecoming when their car was hit. The accident killed her best friends and almost killed her. Multiple surgeries and a whole lot of therapy have gotten her back on her feet which was no small miracle. Her lifetime plans had to be changed a bit because the cane and her physical limitations did create some difficulties. However, she was doing just fine, thank you.
Beth Ann worked as a hospice and home health care nurse in Hatcher County. No, it wasn’t what she planned for her life but she was doing quite well with it and was good at her job. Then the day came that her newest patient is Hiram Jessup. There is no one else to take this patient but Beth Ann can show everyone how far she has moved on by taking on this man. Hiram is the father of one of the girls who died at the scene as well as the father of the boy driving the vehicle that hit them.
Mark Jessup was that boy and served three years in prison for the accident. He has since gone on to develop a successful company and become a rather wealthy man. He has also come home. This was not something Beth Ann had prepared for nor something she thought she could handle. But she sucked it up to show the town.
With all of this, you would think her plate couldn’t get any fuller. But two main things start happening. First, her mother is brutally murdered. This creates another fervor around town for folks to continue to call her Poor Beth Ann. Then she has had no memories of the accident. Now they are flooding in and she is starting to think that not everything is the way she thought.
Colleen Thompson creates some really intriguing plot twists and turns combining the past with the present to begin to curve a great future for the characters. As the reader you have to wonder how they will ever get past all of this upset but the steps along the way are incredible.
The characters are all strong in their own right but when combined they become explosive. By the end of Head On the reader will have a lot of words to describe Beth Ann but poor won’t be one of them!
