A fresh start from the pain of the last several years was long overdue for Matt Graham and his daughter, Autumn. In fact he’s hoping life in their new town would ease Autumn out of the shell she’s built around herself. Heartbreakingly for Matt, that hasn’t been the case. His little girl hasn’t talked, smiled, or laughed in two years. But he continues to hope that the pain of losing her mother to a disease will subside, that she’ll one day smile and laugh and play as a little girl should.
Shockingly, to Matt, it’s a woman, Hannah Taylor, who is dressing the window of the town’s toy store that captures both Autumn and Matt’s attention.
Autumn because "she’s like mommy" and Matt because she not only unknowingly reached his daughter in a way he’s not been able to, but because he sees her inner beauty and happiness radiate from within her. Matt becomes helplessly drawn to Hannah.
Hannah, being in remission, has a wealth of empathy for Autumn. Matt, too. They both need her. She’s sure that God will help her help them. And help her, too, as she’s falling in love…not only with Autumn, but Matt, as well.
As their lives become happily entangled on a daily basis, Matt sees that he needs to turn to God more. He finds that he feels more at peace leaving things in God’s hands. Hannah’s shown him that.
But when heartbreak and pain loom on the horizon, will they trust God? Will they rely on Him and His promises?
It’s obvious that Renee Andrews has a big and loving heart and writes with compassion. She also has a gift of writing; it’s pictorial. I could see the town square in my mind as I read each page, feel the sense of community Hannah’s church had. Each of her characters summon up empathy and smiles in the reader.
We’re reminded that God is in control. All we need to do is to remember to ask, to pray. For everything. As Nathan says, "sometimes He says yes, and sometimes He says no."
Tender, sweet, and inspiring. Full of sonshine and hope.
Happy reading,
Connie
